Why Pelagion Exists
Remote power projects sit at the intersection of technical complexity, commercial risk, and operational urgency. The consequences of a poor technical decision — wrong technology, undersized storage, a procurement process that doesn't reflect on-the-ground reality — can be significant and expensive to unwind.
Pelagion was founded to address a gap: specialist, independent engineering expertise that is fully focused on off-grid, hybrid power and grid-forming DC-coupled solar-BESS, without the generalism of a large consultancy or the commercial conflicts of a vendor.
We work exclusively in this space. That focus is deliberate — it means our clients get depth, not breadth, and a practitioner who has spent a career on exactly these problems.
About Peter Hülkenberg
Director & Principal Consultant
Peter is a Chartered Professional Engineer with 25 years of specialist experience in off-grid, hybrid renewable, and battery energy storage systems.
His career includes senior technical roles with KEMA The Netherlands (now CESI Group) and EDL Energy — two globally recognised names in power systems engineering and remote energy solutions. He has led teams, projects, technical assessments, feasibility studies, BESS due-diligence, specification and procurement processes, and performance reviews across remote Australia.
Peter founded Pelagion to bring that depth of expertise directly to clients, with the responsiveness and accountability that only a dedicated specialist practice can offer.
